Dairy Herd Recorder – South East Queensland

Travelling circuit – ONGOING ROLE

This is an ongoing business opportunity suitable for individual or couple who want to travel and work in seq. With potential for an expanded area in the future.

• ideally has an understanding / experience in the dairy industry or other intensive animal industry
• Initially it is envisaged 5 farms a month with capacity to grow.
• The role of the herd recorder is integral to the generation of accurate data for use by Dairy Farmers and their employees.
• Farmers contract directly with the Herd Recorder. The herd recorder must have a reliable vehicle, Laptop and their own internet service. In this instance a campervan or motorhome with trailer (equipment storage and transport) would be envisaged unless a permanent resident with their own base in the area takes up this opportunity (Ute or wagon if a resident)
• Milk meters, parts, computer program for data entry of milk recording are provided.
• Good communication and IT skills essential.

Brief description of Herd Recording process.

• Bring equipment, set up equipment, take and record samples during milking, accurately complete any documentation, disassemble and clean equipment, store equipment, package and deliver samples for dispatch to Dairy Express- Clyde Lab.

General Information

• Training will be provided.
• To minimize the travel charges it is envisaged that a monthly circuit would be followed. This allows for planning for the herd recorder and participating farms.
• It would be open to negotiation between Herd Recorder and farmers as to whether they stay on farm or a nearby RV site.
• As this may involve staying on farms a Current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and Police Check is required to provide to farmers who require it.
