Remote Services Coordinator

Wirrimanu Aboriginal Corporation

Balgo Community

Balgo (Wirrimanu) is one of Australian’s most remote Aboriginal communities located in the south-east Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Balgo is in the Shire of Halls Creek and is about 3 hrs drive southwest along the Tanami Road with a population of about 460 people. Most of the Balgo community speaks Kukatja, which is one of the Western Desert languages. Other languages spoken include Walmajarri, Jaru, Pintupi, Warlpiri and Kriol.

People have access to general services in Balgo including an Administration Office (Wirrimanu Aboriginal Corporation), Balgo Clinic (with Flying Doctor Service) and a well-stocked Community owned General Store. The Catholic Church (Kutjungka Catholic Parish) is a prominent establishment within the community which also operates the Catholic primary school (Luurnpa).

SECTION 1 - What is on Offer!

  • salary package circa $74,000 to $84,000 dependent on experience plus super, salary sacrificing options and ATO Remote Area Allowance
  • Five weeks annual leave plus 17.5% loading
  • Three weeks of TOIL per year (taken after three months continuous service)
  • Work vehicle provided including fuel
  • Fully furnished and equipped subsided accommodation, including internet, electricity and water
  • You will also receive travel allowance of $5,000pa after a qualifying period

SECTION 2 - Objectives

  1. The day-to-day operations of remote services projects, including the Remote Community Care Service and Centrelink to the Balgo, Mulan and Billiluna Communities.
  2. Managing professional development of the above relevant staff and if required, arrange relevant training where applicable.
  3. To assist with office operations on an as required basis, directed by the CEO

 

SECTION 3 - Key Duties

The Remote Services Coordinator’s key duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Remote Community Care Service Coordinator
  • Mentor, train and support Community Care workers to operate all functions of the Home and Community Care (HACC) services in Balgo, Mulan & Billiluna
  • Managing and monitoring client care plans, provide referrals for Aged Care Assessments and Mental Health team.
  • Manage the funded budgets.
  • Procure supplies and stores relating to HACC sector.
  • Design and implement activities for HACC clients to promote sense of community and inclusiveness
  • Mentor and support Centrelink Agents in three Communities.
  • Manage and assist clients with Centrelink business and enquiries face to face, as well as via telephone enquiries.
  • Encourage, educate and assist customers to use the Centrelink online services. Use the Centrelink internet site to identify payments and services that may be appropriate information for a customer.
  • Review all Centrelink forms provided by customers. Verify papers supporting a customer’s claim.
  • In addition, provide verbal and / or written reports to the Regional Service Managers and / or Regional Coordinator.
  • Act as a liaison point between Centrelink staff and the local community members.
  • Maintain a high standard of hygiene by performing routine cleaning of the Centrelink offices during the day to ensure the facility is clean and presentable to the Community (Covid Safe).
  1. Additional responsibilities include:
  • Provide updates to the CEO/Board of Directors regarding the performance of the above funded activities.
  • Ensure Policy and Procedures manual and is kept up to date and adhered to by Wirrimanu employees.
  • Assist with office and any other operations on an as required basis directed by the CEO.

SECTION 4 - Selection Criteria

Qualifications / Education

  1. Tertiary qualification in Community Care or Individual Care

plus

A record of achievement at an executive or senior/community level.

Skills/Experience

  1. Current manual Australian driver licence
  2. Significant experience in a management/supervisory position
  3. Recent relevant experience working in an inter-cultural environment
  4. Strong written and oral communication skills
  5. Administration, word processing and database skills
  6. Proven experience in multi-level liaison, including the NGO, government and corporate sectors.

Knowledge

  1. Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and a good understanding of the political, social and economic factors that affect them.
  2. Sound knowledge of procedures and protocols when working with Aboriginal people.
  3. Knowledge of government grant acquittal processes and practices, and
  4. Sound knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity, Industrial Relations and Occupational Health and Safety requirements.

Personal and Interpersonal Attributes

  1. Commitment to Aboriginal self-management and community empowerment, and
  2. Ability to work effectively independently but most importantly as part of a team.-

SECTION 5 – Specific Requirements

  1. Current and valid manual Australian driver licence.
  2. Completion of three (3) months satisfactory probationary period.
  3. A Federal Police Clearance with proof of absence of any financial impropriety, including bankruptcy, insolvency, etc. and/or criminal convictions involving fraud or any related behaviour offence in any state/territory in which employed in the past five (5) years (to be provided within one (1) month of commencement).
  4. Mandatory double dose Covid vaccination and booster when required
